We came back from a great vacation packed with videogames, lazyness and nice people (“semi-family”) just to learn my father-in-law has passed away on Wednesday.

Dana’s mother found him lying on the floor when she came back from work. He had a weak heart, and the coroner said it was a quick passage, it didn’t take more than a few seconds.

I’m not sure who to talk about it, so I post it here. We never were really really really tight, but he was a nice guy, and our relationship was very good. We came along quite well; he was a real “Bavarian Original” (minus the Bavarian clothing and the typical oompa-oompa music g) – mostly friendly, sometimes grumpy, sometimes a bit selfish, but a nice guy overall. I really liked him. When we last spoke, it was the usual “see you around in a week or two”… I didn’t have time to say good-bye to him, but even if I had, I wouldn’t know what to tell him.

Hmm. Strange feeling to know he won’t be around anymore.

Godspeed, Hugo. We’ll miss you.

Omni Trio’s “Even Angels Cast Shadows” – excellent, atmospheric D&B, highly inspiring and actually improving my overall mood. Recommended.

[Quote] Galactic gasbag — Beneath all the pseudo-mythic Joseph Campbell hogwash, the roots of George Lucas’ empire lie not in “The Odyssey” but in classic and pulp 20th century sci-fi. [Quote]

Excellent articleat Salon.com about Lucas babbling about what Star Wars is (“The word for this movie is fun” in 1977; “With ‘Star Wars’ I consciously set about to re-create myths and the classic mythological motifs. I wanted to use those motifs to deal with issues that exist today.” in 2002). Very interesting read, if you have a few minutes, check it out.

MSNBC:

[Quote] While Microsoft has claimed strong sales for the Xbox in the United States, at least in its initial holiday season, the company has admitted it is not meeting expectations in Japan, a market where it was expected to have difficulty. “Japan is going well on the software side and probably is a little behind where we want to be on the hardware side,” Xbox director Robbie Bach told Reuters last week. In its regular global video game survey last week, Goldman Sachs said U.S. retailers showed a “surprisingly clear” preference for Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 2 over the Xbox. [Quote]

Haha! :P
