After letting G-Look run for a couple of days to gather some actually useful real-life data I’ve decided to restrict the maximum link age to 24 hours. That means that every source link in the database which is older than a day will be ignored in the rank calculation. Example: a link to game event/site XYZ is posted on Blue’s News and slowly makes its way down the page (since new articles and news are posted on top of the page). The G-Look spider will grab the link and store it in the database as a “hit” for XYZ, but this hit will only be relevant for 24 hours.
This should make sure that only current news/events will be ranked while older news decay more quickly to keep the list fresh.
G-Look is fun for me (and most likely quite useless to anyone else). It’s something that doesn’t need much time from me, but it’s cool to watch and think about it. Keeps the brain fluffy. ;)
